Sunita Sharma

Sunita is a therapist-in-training currently completing her Master’s in Guidance and Counselling at James Cook University. As she builds her practice at Fernhill, she brings both warmth and deep empathy to her work with clients, offering a safe, supportive space to explore life’s challenges.

She works primarily with adults navigating issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, addiction, work-related stress, and relationship difficulties. Sunita is also undertaking additional training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, reflecting her commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

Sunita’s counselling work is enriched by more than 30 years of experience in the corporate sector. Having mentored colleagues and supported career transitions, she deeply understands the complexities of professional life — including burnout, identity shifts, and the ongoing challenge of finding balance.

Her approach is person-centred and strengths-based, grounded in the belief that each client has inner resources that can be uncovered and nurtured. In her counselling practice she draws from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as other modalities to help clients build psychological resilience and live in alignment with their values.

As a mother of four, including a special needs child, Sunita brings a lived understanding of the stresses that come with parenting, caregiving, and the evolving demands of family life. Born and raised in Singapore, she is attuned to the cultural pressures and expectations that often accompany life here. Her time living in Australia and Indonesia gives her a global perspective — especially around adapting to new environments and navigating different education systems. Sunita has also travelled extensively and is very comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.

She is fluent in English and proficient in Bahasa Indonesia, Malay, Hindi, and Punjabi. Sunita is available to see clients at short notice and looks forward to building her career at Fernhill by walking alongside clients on their personal journeys of growth and healing.
